When we invest our time in considering choices and options, the return is often high and the time is well spent. Contemplation and examination adds significant value, especially when it is a social activity. For technologies and products, the time spent refining the outcome often reduces the work that follows. That said — we need to be clear about the need to reach conclusions and make a decision. There may be many reasonable solutions and often a strong champion for each. Recognizing this, we need clarity about where decision rights sit, and the ability to let colleagues make a call and move us into action, safe in the knowledge that while we may have had dissent, we will now fully comply.
The Paradox Pairs series is an exploration of the contradictory forces that surround us. A deeper study finds that these forces often complement each other if we can learn to tap into the strength of each. See the entire series by using the Paradox Pairs Index.
