Reporting shallow statistics about the number of under represented employees tells us nothing. Diversity initiatives fail if they do not fundamentally alter the institutions power relationships.
When things are working well, ubiquitous empowerment will create incredible results. When things are not quite so smooth, however, we need the guidance of our Tie-Breaker to allow us to continue our high-quality, productive work.
Quality is assessed of the end result, where rigor is measured of the work. Yet we lack cultural context. To balance these themes the result must allow for nuance. We can operate within the tensions of rigor, quality, and nuance to celebrate strengths from our process and virtue from our creativity.
We will achieve more if we are pushed by those we trust, who are compelled to improve our solution, who revel the improved product.
We expect cooperation and help from our colleagues and we welcome opportunities to support each other.
