The Circles of Belonging represent the increasingly larger and complex communities we contribute to as we grow.
A sense of belonging is powerful and good, it unlocks our whole self. On the other hand conforming to group norms can be a detriment.
We all want to feel like we are part of a community. Othering is the opposite of belonging, it labels individuals as operating outside the norms. Luckily we can defeat othering by allowing our membership rules to be intersectional.
To build a great enterprise we must invest and grow at the individual level. Motivated individuals do better work. When we align on a common goal, a strategic initiative, with a clarity of purpose, we give rise to a sense of belonging. Healthy teams generate a currency of connection.
